About Autograph Collecting

Autograph collecting makes a great hobby for just about anyone.  Whether your goal is pleasure or profit, autograph collecting is the rare hobby which is truly interactive.  Acquiring autographs in person will yield not only unique and valuable pieces of memorabilia, but also the memories associated with meeting your favorite athletes and celebrities.  A properly displayed autograph makes a decorative addition to one's home or office and makes a great conversation piece. 

Collect What You're Interested In!

When starting an autograph collection it is important to focus your efforts.  Trying to collect in too broad of a field will seem overwhelming.  Narrow your collection to what interests you.  Music lovers may choose to collect musicians autographs, while history buffs may choose to collect the autographs of ex-presidents.  Here at New England Player Promotions we concentrate on sports autographs.  If you are a sports fan wishing to start an autograph collection consider focusing on a specific team or the teams of a particular city or region.  The 3-Time Superbowl Champion Patriots would make a nice choice!

Glossary of Common Terms:

COA - Certificate of Authenticity.  A COA is usually a paper certificate issued by the acquirer of the autograph to authenticate that the autograph is genuine.  COA's are only as good as the source which issues them.  COA's may not be necessary if you are planning on keeping the item, but are a good idea if you are hoping the item will appreciate in value.

Inscription - An inscription is an added bit of brief text such as "NFL MVP '07".  An inscription will add market value to an item. 

Personalization - A personalization is an added bit of brief text made out specifically to the person getting the autograph, such as "To Jeffrey: My Biggest Fan!"  A personalization will detract from the market value of an item, but will add to its sentimental value.
